This class explores the full range of Moribana arrangements created by the Ohara School, focusing on the three primary styles: Upright, Slanting, and Water-Reflecting. Each style offers a unique way to express balance, harmony, and natural movement through the careful placement of materials.
Upright Moribana: features materials arranged vertically, conveying strength and stability.
Slanting Moribana: introduces diagonal lines, adding a sense of natural flow and dynamic energy.
Water-Reflecting Moribana: draws inspiration from reflections on the water’s surface, with elements extending horizontally to evoke calm and serenity.
Throughout the session, you will study the characteristics and principles that define each style, including how to select and position plant materials to create depth and visual interest. Moribana arrangements emphasise the harmony between container, materials, and space, encouraging a thoughtful relationship between the arrangement and its environment.
Practical exercises will help you develop confidence and precision, enabling you to create compositions that are both structurally sound and artistically expressive. This class is ideal for students wishing to deepen their understanding of foundational Ikebana design while refining their technical skills.
All day classes are £50. You will also need to purchase the flowers separately which can cost anything up to £20 extra.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
As the discipline of Ikebana follows a strict curriculum, if you are new to Ikebana, you will start at the beginning of the curriculum for any class you attend. You can find the curriculum here.
