ALL DAY: HANA MAI TO HANA KANADE

  • Harbridge, Court Barn Lane Chichester, England, PO20 United Kingdom (map)

Hana Mai to Hana Kanade

Two contemporary Ohara School styles are explored during this session: Hana Mai and Hana Kanade.

Hana Mai, meaning Dancing Flowers, is a sculptural approach that creates rhythm and movement through the interaction of flowers and space. Hana Kanade, developed by the current Headmaster of the Ohara School, introduces crossing lines to create greater complexity and spatial tension.

Students will investigate the distinctive characteristics of each style while developing an understanding of line, proportion, balance, and compositional flow.

All day classes are £50. You will also need to purchase the flowers separately which can cost anything up to £20 extra.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

As the discipline of Ikebana follows a strict curriculum, if you are new to Ikebana, you will start at the beginning of the curriculum for any class you attend. You can find the curriculum here.
