All-day: INTERPRETING HAIKU THROUGH IKEBANA

  • Harbridge, Court Barn Lane Chichester, England, PO20 United Kingdom (map)

Interpreting Haiku through Ikebana

This class explores the relationship between haiku poetry and ikebana composition, considering how a brief poetic form can be interpreted through plant materials and spatial arrangement.

Students will respond to selected haiku, translating their seasonal references, mood, and imagery into floral compositions. Emphasis is placed on simplicity, suggestion, and the use of empty space, allowing materials to carry meaning without excess.

Working within the Ohara School approach, attention will be given to line, balance, and placement, while encouraging sensitivity to atmosphere and seasonal expression. Depending on level, guidance will be adapted to support both structured and more personal interpretations.

All day classes are £50. You will also need to purchase the flowers separately which can cost anything up to £20 extra.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

As the discipline of Ikebana follows a strict curriculum, if you are new to Ikebana, you will start at the beginning of the curriculum for any class you attend. You can find the curriculum here.
