Summer Landscape
Seasonal materials are used in this study of landscape composition within the Ohara School tradition, where plant forms are arranged to suggest natural scenery such as water, banks, and open space.
Working in a shallow container, students will consider how distance and depth can be created through placement, scale, and direction of line. Attention is given to how foreground, middle ground, and background are suggested rather than depicted.
This approach is based on Moribana styles such as Water-Reflecting Moribana, evoking the tranquillity of lakes and streams, and Near-View Upright Moribana, creating depth and perspective within the landscape.
Using seasonal flowers, students will create a variety of landscape-inspired arrangements. There is opportunity to experiment with different materials while developing an understanding of how natural scenery can be expressed through ikebana practice.
Each student will work at an appropriate level within the curriculum, with guidance adjusted individually. The focus is on developing clarity in structure while allowing the material to suggest a natural setting.
All day classes are £50. You will also need to purchase the flowers separately which can cost anything up to £20 extra.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
As the discipline of Ikebana follows a strict curriculum, if you are new to Ikebana, you will start at the beginning of the curriculum for any class you attend. You can find the curriculum here.
