All-day: Heika and tall pots

  • Harbridge, Court Barn Lane Chichester, England, PO20 United Kingdom (map)

This class focuses on Heika, a classical Ikebana style created for use with tall containers. Students will work with three distinct methods, each exploring different expressions of line, form, and movement:

Upright Heika – Strong vertical lines create a bold and balanced composition.

Slanting Heika – A gentle angle introduces natural movement and flow.

Cascading Heika – Flowers and foliage spill gracefully over the edge, creating a dynamic and captivating effect.

Whether you are continuing your study of Heika or refining specific techniques, this session offers the opportunity to build confidence and deepen your understanding of working with tall pots. As with many forms in the Ohara School, Heika arrangements reflect the harmony between structure, material, and container—an essential element in traditional Japanese floral design.

All day classes are £50. You will also need to purchase the flowers separately which can cost anything up to £20 extra.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

As the discipline of Ikebana follows a strict curriculum, if you are new to Ikebana, you will start at the beginning of the curriculum for any class you attend. You can find the curriculum here.
